What Exactly Is “Super Sweet” Corn?

Corn lovers rejoice! The beloved vegetable has many variations, but none as delicious as super sweet corn. The sweetness of sweet corn is a direct result of the high sugar content, and super sweet corn has the highest concentration of sugar of all hybrid variations of corn.

Sweet corn is actually a genetic mutation of field corn, a variety of Zea Mays. The unique Genomics of this type of corn means it retains its sweetness longer than other types of corn. Super sweet corn has a higher amount of sugar, and sweet flavor genes than standard sweet corn, giving it optimal taste and texture in every bite.

Even so, not every type of super sweet corn has the same flavor. Different strains of hybrids mean that some super sweet corn is crunchier while others are creamier. Our proprietary hybrid of super sweet corn has these attributes and more! Our strain of super sweet corn is more resistant to insect pests and has a more robust vegetative structure compared to other super sweet corn.

We’ve spent over 20 years breeding our super sweet strain of corn, and we love to share it with the Cache Valley community. One bite of our corn will take your taste buds to new levels of ecstasy.

Try it raw! That’s right, our sweet corn is so sweet you can eat it straight off the cob as a tasty treat. However, if you prefer your corn cooked, there are countless ways to prepare our corn. Here is a quick and easy recipe to spice up your corn.

Fire Roasted Corn with Chili Lime Butter

4 ears super sweet corn husked

½ cup mayo

½ cup sour cream

Ingredients for chili lime butter:

½ cup butter softened to room temperature

1 tablespoon chili powder

2 tablespoons lime juice

½ teaspoon lime zest

Preparation Instructions:

  1. Fire up the grill and toss the corn on the grill grates.
  2. Grill the corn on the grill for 8–10 minutes, turning for even cooking.
  3. In a bowl, combine the mayo and sour cream.
  4. Mix the ingredients for the chili lime butter in a separate bowl.
  5. Remove the corn from the grill and let cool slightly.
  6. Coat grilled corn with mayo and sour cream mixture.
  7. Generously top with chili lime butter.
  8. Enjoy your Johnson Family Farms super sweet corn!
